As a musician, Zachary Vella has always valued the sense of emotion or narrative that provides a piece of music with meaning. He thrives on these unique stories and emotional reactions as they provide both the audience and performer with a sense of interest and entertainment that is almost impossible to recreate exactly the same way twice. It is this exciting sense of storytelling and entertainment that he skilfully harnesses to shape and bring life to his performances.
Having completed a Bachelor Music (Hons First Class) degree from the University of Queensland, with an extended major in performance (classical voice), and a Master of Music Studies (with Distinction) in vocal pedagogy from the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, he has a thorough understanding of the how the vocal mechanism works. This intimate knowledge of his own instrument enables him to colourfully express dramatic intent, musical meaning, and stories when performing all types of classical vocal music. As a young artist, he has proved that he can genuinely express intense and sincere emotion when performing. He most recently demonstrated this as the Baritone Soloist for the RSCM QueenslandinSpires performance of Fauré’s requiem, and in performances with Success on Stage and Darling Opera. Some of his other notable performances also come from his days in university, as Aeneas in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, as Judas in Bach’s St. Mathews Passion, and as the Bass Soloist in UQ’s concert: Greats of the Baroque: Charpentier and Bach. Outside of performing, he looks to share his passion for storytelling through his private vocal teaching, conducting community ensembles, and his work in children’s entertainment so that he can help others create and enjoy captivating music.
