As well as working as a freelance musician, she has taught cello and conducted string ensembles at a number of private Sydney schools, and at the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music. She has also worked as AMEB string examiner for a number of years. Living in Canberra with her family since 2007, she has performed regularly and taught cello in the region. Rita plays in classical chamber music and orchestral concerts, and also often collaborates with musicians in other genres such as folk, celtic and cabaret music.
Cello Teacher: Stephanie
Stephanie starting playing the violin at the age of 5 and through primary and secondary schooling she progressed through AMEB and Trinity exams. After secondary school university and travel took up her time, although she never lost her love of music. Stephanie has reignited that love of music by learning and progressing on the cello as an adult.
“Having played 2 instruments, I believe it is important to not only have the correct technique but to instil a love of music and practicing so it doesn’t become a chore. Looking back over my years of music, experience has taught me that progress is best achieved due to a love of music and the instrument rather than it being forced. Building a good, honest relationship with students is important so they feel comfortable to express themselves. I believe it is part of my job to work with the student to develop their passion, interest and talent whilst employing correct technique.”
