MUSIC THEORY LESSONS

Making Music Theory Simple!

Music theory doesn’t have to be complicated, tedious or difficult to remember!

I have developed a range of simple, effective methods and patterns that help pupils understand the principles of music theory without having to memorise lots of different approaches. By breaking questions down into manageable steps, pupils can learn to recognise patterns and apply the same techniques to answer questions with confidence.

Whether starting from the beginning, working towards an examination or struggling with a particular area, lessons are tailored to the individual. My aim is to make theory straightforward, enjoyable and much less daunting!

HOW CAN THEORY BE STUDIED?

Music theory can be included as part of piano or violin lessons, or studied separately as a dedicated subject.

I offer flexible teaching options, including:

• Regular lessons alongside instrumental tuition.
• Short-term tuition to concentrate on particular topics or fill gaps in understanding.
• Catch-up lessons to revisit areas pupils may have missed or found difficult with their school or instrumental teacher.
• Intensive courses designed to cover an entire examination grade in a concentrated period.
• Exam preparation to help pupils work towards completing their theory examination efficiently and confidently.

For pupils who need to progress quickly, it is possible to arrange a series of intensive lessons, with the theory examination taken during the course where the relevant examination arrangements allow.

I have successfully taught pupils an entire theory grade through intensive tuition, helping them prepare for their examination in a much shorter timeframe than traditional weekly lessons.

My approach is highly individual. I adapt my teaching methods to suit the pupil, finding ways to make even the most challenging topics easier to understand.

HSC MUSIC STUDENTS

Having worked as Head of Music in both the UK and Australia, I also offer support for HSC Music students in music theory, aural skills, composition and other areas of the course. Lessons can be arranged for specific topics or ongoing support throughout the year.
