Matthew Reid

Matthew works professionally as a musical director, performer, accompanist, vocal coach and tutor throughout Sydney. He has his Bachelor of Music Studies from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and his Master of Teaching degree from Western Sydney University. As an accompanist and tutor, he works regularly with Schools Spectacular, Southern Stars and The Talent Development Project. He has also taught and accompanied at universities such as Brent Street, The International Screen Academy, The Academy of Music and Performing Arts, and NIDA.

Some recent performances include: West Side Story (keyboard 1 - Sydney Opera House), Chicago (keyboard 1 - Capitol Theatre), Hair (keyboard - Sydney Opera House), 9 to 5 (keyboard 2 - Capitol Theatre), An American in Paris (keyboard 2 - Theatre Royal), Bring it on (keyboard 2 - State Theatre) and Falsettos (keyboard 2 - NIDA). As an audition Pianist, Matthew has worked for: Disney Cruises, Princess Cruises, Norwegian Cruises, the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, The Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, Rent, and Hair (Sydney Opera House), Joseph & the Technicolour Dreamcoat (The Really Useful Group), 9 to 5 (GFO), American Idiot (Matt Ward), Mary Poppins and & Juliet (Michael Cassel), Everybody's Talking About Jamie (OZ production), A Chorus Line and Amelie (Darlinghurst Theatre), Razorhurst, Caroline or Change, Head over Heels and Nice Work if You Can Get It (The Hayes Theatre). He has also accompanied master-classes with stars such as Nikki Snelson and Philip Quast.

Since 2016, he has Musically Directed every Oz Panto show (NSW, QLD, VIC), all produced by Bonnie Lythgoe, and featuring stars such as Todd McKenney and Lucy Durack. Since 2017, he has also toured throughout NSW as Musical Director/keyboardist for multiple Rhonda Burchmore shows. Other shows Matthew has Musically Directed include: Nine, Kiss Me Kate, Gypsy, Bare, The Wiz, City of Angels, Chess, The Producers, and more.

Other professional credits include: Parkes: Overture (starring Josh Pitterman), Come From Away (rehearsal pianist - Capitol Theatre), Jekyll & Hyde (rehearsal pianist - Hayes), Peter Cousens Live in Concert (NSW), Trevor Ashley: Double D's (City Recital Hall), Bring It On: The Musical (QLD), Melba and Xanadu (Hayes), The Australian Tenors Tour (NSW, VIC), Australian Girls Choir (SOH), Rake (ABC/Netflix - 1 episode), Fighting Season (Foxtel - 1 episode), Coogee Carols & Hats Off (Seymour Centre and the Sydney Lyric Theatre). Not including the work listed above, Matthew has also been involved as an accompanist for more than 150 Community Theatre and school productions.
