Nick Henderson is an accomplished and experienced teacher of both electric and acoustic bass, and also guitar. He aims to inspire students and nurture a love for the instrument. He also aims to introduce students to a range of styles including rock, blues, jazz and metal. He is familiar with HSC music.
Nick is a graduate with a bachelor of music (Jazz Studies) with 1st class Honours from the University of Sydney Conservatorium of Music. He majored in electric and double bass. His teachers there included Craig Scott, Mike Nock, and Matt McMahon. He performs and composes for several groups including instrumental hip hop outfit ‘lightcycle’ and the acclaimed jazz trio ‘Hieronymus’.
As a high school student Nick attended The Hills Grammar School where he was Music Captain. He achieved a band 6, the highest possible result, in Music 2 and extension, and was nominated for the annual HSC Encore concert for outstanding HSC performers. He auditioned for the Con on guitar and bass and was given an early round offer. He studied electric bass and jazz improvisation with Saul Richardson, played in combos and big bands at Jazz Workshop Australia and was a member of the Sydney Youth Jazz Orchestra. At JWA he played alongside future Hieronymous Trio members Emma Stephenson and Oli Nelson. He has toured the USA in big bands from Jazz Workshop Australia and The Sydney conservatorium.
